  1. okay, so not sure how I fit into the family puzzle, but I am related and would like to find the origins of my name. I thought I was given the French sur name, Dorlon as a first name due to there being no sons to carry on the name. Are there any Dorlon's from Mobile?

  2. theDoryLama, there are many Dorlons in Mobile. It began with Nathan Mulford Dorlon (1815-1896). He was born in New York and moved to Mobile, where he met and married Martha Patsey Lyons (1832-1916).

Their daughter Adaline A. Dorlon (1851-1929) was married to Augustus Isaiah Jones (1851-1915) in Mobile on Dec 23, 1875. They had a son named Augustus Isaiah Jones Jr. (1876-1943), who married Sarah Louise Delchamps (1883-1961).

Sarah was the daughter of Edwin Alexis Delchamps (1849-1925), who was the son of John Julius Delchamps (1821-1906). My great grandfather is Edwin's brother William Boyles Delchamps (1861-1943). Edwin's daughter Sarah and her husband Augustus Isaiah Jones Jr. had 7 children live into adulthood:

George Shelton (1906-1989), Augusta Evans (1910-1993), Nellie Irene (1908-1997), Mary Helen (1913-1993), Joseph Bancroft (1917-2002), Adelaide Dorlan (1915-2002), and Margaret Louise (1921-2003).
